IN TOW: Extreme Stainless Trailers
We couldn’t take our eyes off of the gleaming example of custom boat trailer construction- a stanless steel boat trailer. It came from Extreme Custom Trailers (951/682-5522; extremetrailers.com) of Riverside, California.
Though it is not the first trailer with a stainless steel frame (EZ showed us one a few years back), it is the first we’ve seen with a polished stainless finish, Company President Eddie Rowland says he sells only a couple of stainless trailers a year. Each is built on request and to customer specifications, and most are for ski boats or custom performance craft.
The frames are fully welded and go through an exhaustive polishing process to bring out the shine and luster, and enhance corrosion resistance. Standard features include bolt-on fenders, non-stainless UFP axles and disc brakes, and Wesbar lighting products. Options include LED lights and a “Pivit Hitch” swingaway tongue that can be ordered for trailers with DICO/Demco orf UFP couplers.
Extreme can build a stainless cradle for any size or style boat. This type of construction does not weigh significantly more than that of a steel trailer, but it sure costs more. Pricing depends on the size-and options, but Rowland told us that his stainless trailers cost two to three times that of the comparable steel trailers, which Extreme also builds.
